The kingfisher (Allcedo atthis) belongs to the family of Alcedinidae.
Its sparkling blue plumage comes from prismatic reflections on the tiny structures of its feathers.
The sex of the bird is differentiated by the color of its beak. It is almost completely black in the male, and in the female rather orange, like its legs.
The kingfisher lives near bodies of water, where it can feed in abundance. To feed, it dives by violently striking the surface of the water, catches its prey, then swallows it head first in the direction of the scales. If it is not in the right direction, it has the particularity of throwing its prey in the air with agility to put it back in the direction that suits it.
