Armenian-American businessman Garo Armen received a WITSA 2024 award and the World Alliance of Information Technologies and Services, for the creation of a new drug against cancer
Alexander Yesayan, President of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (ATEM), informed about it.
“The award is given to those who render great services to humanity or become authors of works of global importance. For example, Nelson Mandela is among the laureates of this award. This year, our company nominated Garo Armen and the Board of Directors approved it. The award ceremony was held with different nominations, but the main award was given to our Armenian-American compatriot. His activity itself is of great importance.
The company he founded and heads, “Agenus Bio,” deals with cancer treatment and, among other things, has created a drug that has helped more than a thousand patients who have already recovered. Thanks to this drug, even patients with stage 4 cancer, whose body had metastases, were treated. During the six weeks that the patients took the drug called “Botbal,” the cancer completely disappeared,” said Alexander Yesayan.
According to A. Yesayan, there are many researchers in the Armenian diaspora in the field of technologies, where there are successful specialists and Armenian companies that have great connections and weight. One of the most famous is, for example, “Service Titan,” a company founded by Vahe Kuzoyan and Aram Mahtesyan. This greatly helps Armenian startups to have an accessible voice in the necessary places.
Alexander Yesayan also singled out Razmik Hovakimyan, who has venture capital and has made investments, helping many Armenian startups. He stressed that the diaspora helps us a lot, thanks to which Armenia, unlike many countries, has become accessible and audible.
