An exceptional and highly unusual mid-19th century Armenian Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) rug. The saturated natural colors and deeply archaic weave immediately set it apart. Although it does not feature the dragon motifs associated with the classic Artsakh Dragon carpets, it preserves an extraordinary repertoire of early regional iconography: cross-in-square rosettes, facing serpents, S-form serpents, and other ancient Caucasian motifs.

Even Armenian rug scholar Ashkhunj Poghosyan remarked that he had never seen another example like it. A rare and compelling survivor of the Artsakh weaving tradition.
